Dry Creek Valley
Sagrantino hails from Umbria, Italy. We planted the Sagrantino block in Dry Creek Valley with bud wood obtained from the University of California Davis. Sagrantino grown here boasts much of the same qualities as its Italian siblings including rich tannins, intense earthy aromas and ripe dark fruit flavors. The nose shows elusive floral elements.
On the palate the wine opens almost immediately with assertive chalky tannins very characteristic of the Sagrantino grape. The tannins support the dark berry fruit with elements of ripe figs and bitter almond cookies. Good acidity keeps the wine lively in the mouth and makes it a possibility to pair with grilled fish like ahi and octopus. A well balanced wine.
