2014 Petite Sirah has the best qualities of Petite Sirah. For our 2014 vintage we bought the fruit from the Venturi Family in Calpella in Mendocino County. These grapes are organically grown and dry farmed on soils of rocky, medium clay. It is the dry farming that brings the intensity to this beautiful wine.
The fruit flavors, tannins and acid make this a wonderful vintage. As usual with this grape the first thing you notice is its brilliant, deep purple, glass-staining color shining in your glass. The aromas are plums and blackberries with hints of warming spices and fine French Oak. Raspberries, black currants, and black pepper are the initial flavors with hints of black cherry, figs and cedar. The finish is long and enjoyable with hints of green apples. This is not your typical Petite Sirah. It is brilliant, elegant and will age well.
